Spring Start-Up Checklist
To turn on your irrigation system, please refer to the following checklist for important steps to follow:
- Open the system's main water valve slowly to allow pipes to fill with water gradually. If these valves are opened too quickly, the sprinkler main lines are subjected to high surge pressures, uncontrolled flow and water hammer.
- Verify the proper operation of each zone valve by manually activating it from the controller.
- Activate each station on the controller (with the controller set on "Manual Single Station" mode), checking for proper operation of each zone. Visually check for proper operating pressure (low pressure indicates a line break or a missing or damaged sprinkler). If a zone appears to have low operating pressure, we recommend that you turn off that particular zone at the controller.
- Set the controller to the desired watering days and zone times. If you simply set the dial to the "Run" position, the controller will run the programmed days and times from last season. Last season's program will be stored as long as the controller was not unplugged from the A/C outlet or the back-up battery was not depleted.
- Replace the controller's 9-volt back-up battery if necessary. We will install this battery for you when we perform the spring adjustment service, if you have a fresh 9-volt battery available.
We will contact you to set an appointment for the spring adjustment service. At the time of service, our technician will:
- Check all sprinkler heads for proper rotation and adjustment.
- Check for adequate coverage.
- Check filters on any poorly performing sprinklers.
- Check for damaged pipes that are resulting in water leaks.
- Check drip irrigation lines for proper operation and damage.
- Check controller for proper programming. Please let our technician know if you have a preference as to what days you would like the system to run (e.g., you may not want the system to run on a certain day if mowing occurs on that same day every week).
